Gareth is the recipient of the 2004 USEF Equestrian of Honor and 2004 & 2005 Andalusian/Lusitano USEF Breeder of the Year. Besides Arabians, Gareth has excelled with Peruvian Pasos, Missouri Fox Trotters, Tennessee Walking horses, and the Morgan horse, but the Andalusian became his signature breed. He now works with Baroque breeds with an emphasis on the Andalusian and Friesian.
As a young man Gareth competed in jumping and dressage as a junior rider. He trained at the National Centre for Sports and Equitation and received his PC Certification. He showed Arabian horses throughout Europe for the Moroccan royal family.
Under Gareth Selwood’s direction at the recent Andalusian Lusitano National 27 horses for various clients won a record of sixteen National Championships, sixteen Reserve titles plus 48 Top Five placings. He is proud that many of these wins came from his amateur riders.
Gareth Selwood was born in England and raised in Brussels, Belgium. Today, Gareth calls the countryside of Wisconsin his home, having since settled at his farm and facilities, Selwood Park, in Elkhorn, less than an hour southwest of Milwaukee.
