Riding and Roping

Driving Demonstrations

Jesus "Chewy" Jouregui will amaze and delight you with his roping and riding "antics" - skills!

Derrick Dupler, with the help of Princess Rhia, will teach you how to select a driving horse, explain the equipment you will need, and show you how to harness and hook up the horse. Derrick will give you basic instruction on pleasure driving techniques for beginners and will emphasize enjoying the driving experience. Princess Rhia will show you how it's done, having received several championships for driving.

Cracking Down on Back Issues (Ice Arena)

Dr. Paula Benbow will discuss and demonstrate animal chiropractic, its applications to horses, and how it may affect back problems. You will learn the importance of why and when to have your horse evaluated by a veterinarian or certified equine chiropractor. If you love your horse, come and see why Dr. Paula can help you.

Biography: Dr. Paula’s special connection with and love of animals prompted her to seek additional training beyond her Chiropractic schooling to be able to help animals suffering with spinal alignment problems.  She is a DC, DICCP, has AVCA certification for 10 years, has worked with animals for 25 years, studied undergraduate courses at UW-Madison, and is a graduate of Palmer Chiropractic College.

Serious Showmanship - Part I & II (Ice Arena)

Jodi Engelhardt will conduct this two-day clinic for serious competitors, interested in hearing the truth about what it takes to be in the Winner’s Circle, and ready to hear that it’s NOT about expensive horses/outfits/tack/trainers. As time allows, Jodi will field questions at the conclusion of each session in an effort to keep content as relevant as possible to the entire audience. Specific questions, situations, and/or dilemmas can be discussed privately with Jodi at the conclusion of her seminar.

Biography: Jodi Engelhardt has been training and showing Western pleasure horses for over 30 years. She has produced multiple state and regional champion horses, youth horses, and amateur/youth horse and rider teams. Jodi is also available for consultation, judging, training, and coaching.

Emergency First Aid (Ice Arena)

Dr. Joe Herring will conduct this seminar using a live horse to discuss basic veterinary care and first aid for horses. He will tell you what the normal vital signs are and then show you how to take your horse’s vitals. Dr. Herring will explain in detail how to recognize and respond to the most common equine emergencies and injuries. He invites you to come prepared with questions that concern you most and will answer them as time allows. Pamphlets, published by the American Association of Equine Practitioners, covering various topics will be available at the Clinicians table.

Biography: Dr. Joe Herring is a native of the Manitowoc area, returning again after attending UW-Manitowoc, Carroll College, and UW-Madison. Dr. Herring works with Veterinary Associates, LLC, in Reedsville, Wisconsin, and provides veterinary services to Manitowoc, Brown, and Calumet counties. Dr. Herring also contributes his services as a guest speaker at Horsey Habit Saddlery & Tack, Silver Lake Country Store, 4-H Horse & Pony Project functions, and client education seminars for Veterinary Associates.

Farrier Fundamentals and Shoeing Success (Ice Arena)

Our on-site farrier, Joel Jacque, will impart his hoof knowledge to his audience as to what correct trimming and shoeing should look like for the horse’s well being. His interesting demonstrations use equine anatomical visual aids to allow his audience to view actual equine leg and foot bones.

Biography: Joel Jacque, originally from Port Washington, currently resides in Black Creek, Wisconsin. He attended the Western School of Horseshoeing in Phoenix, Arizona, because he saw the need for good farriers. Joel has been trimming his own horses for 30 years and has been working as a full-time farrier for the past 8 years. In the course of a year’s work, Joel trims approximately 4,000-5,000 horses. In his spare time, Joel uses his education and experiences to conduct clinics for the 4-H and Fox Valley Technical Center.

Do you have too many horses? Suzi Sevcik of Stallion Marketing will give you Tips and Suggestions to Sell Your Horse Quickly and for a Fair Price. Her seminar is aimed at the average horse owner and will cover all aspects of the horse selling process from setting a fair price to unique ways of marketing your horse. Suzi will have a checklist and detailed, full color handouts for you to take with you as guides to successfully market your horse. Biography: Suzi Sevcik grew up with horses in Northeastern Wisconsin, participating in 4-H and open horse shows as a youth. After attending college, she’s now able to combine her knowledge of the horse industry with 12 years of experience in Internet and print marketing to create a service that fills a need among horse owners. Suzi’s company, Stallion Marketing, offers creative web design, print ads, and professional photography for your convenience.
